en2 Foresight · The future of being alone · Film 1 of 7 · storyboard for approval

Same room, different needs.

A sleeping city at night. Three lit windows, three people alone, three different needs. Then we pull out of the last window and see the whole city: what each person can reach, and one route that fails. Every frame below is rendered from the real film code, not a sketch.

What I'm thinking

Why a city at night

Being alone is invisible in daylight. At night every lit window is a person, so the idea is drawn, not stated. Warm window light is the human colour; teal is connection; coral is a connection that fails.

The structure

Setup: three windows, three needs. Turn: we pull out of the last window and the city reveals what is within reach. Payoff: the same city, every window able to reach out, and the title.

The signature shot

The pull-out at 22–30 s: from inside room 3, through its window, out to the whole city as light-trails draw to a café, a theatre and a responder. One trail stops short and flickers coral: "No reply".

Sound (next step)

  • The voice you approved (16 lines, done).
  • An original night score made in code: a soft keys motif, a low pad, sparse at first, swelling on the reveal and resolving on the title.
  • Sound on every action: light switches as windows come on, a page turn, a phone send, a dull fail, a buzz, a tick, pencil clicks, a clock.
  • Two real silences: after "nobody answers" and before "Being alone is a situation".

What changed from before

  • Light and depth instead of flat pastel.
  • Big type for the key words and the 18,000+.
  • Spring motion, four kinds of camera move, one continuous world.
  • Facts only from the scan; the two studies are never put on one scale.

The other six films, same world

FilmThe ideaThe picture that carries it
2 · Arrive alone, decide laterGoing out alone is becoming a plan, and a way in.One person crosses the night city to a café; at the door the path splits into a private table and a shared one, both lit.
3 · An invitation needs a routeCompany works like medicine, if you can get there.A warm community hall; the bus route to it breaks (25% of rural services cut); Rotherham's admissions bar drops up to 21%.
4 · Who does the AI hand you to?A good companion knows when to hand you back.A chat window glows in a dark room; its light-trail only completes when a person at Age UK accepts the hand-over.
5 · Your door, help nearbyIndependence no longer means living apart.A care home with six students' windows lighting up: free rent for 30 hours of support a month.
6 · Who answers the alert?More sensors are not the answer. Someone has to respond. An alert travels out of a house until someone accepts it; the dementia trial's 127 vs 128 weeks side by side.
7 · What to build firstOne experiment, one owner, one review date. The three switches narrow to one venue's front door; go and stop signs on the street.

What I need from you

  1. Approve the look and the story of film 1, or tell me what to change.
  2. Then I add the score and sound, render film 1 in full, and show it to you.
  3. After that, films 2–7 in the same world, and the combined 10-minute film.
